Reality Registry exists to make digital media accountable to reality.

Generative AI has made fabricating convincing photos and videos trivial, and it has done something less obvious in the process: it handed everyone a free way to dismiss work that is real. That's AI now costs two words. Answering it costs the person who did the work an afternoon, their process, and an argument they did not ask for — and even then it comes down to who people decide to believe.

Detecting fakes doesn't answer this, and it's a losing arms race in any case — detectors chase generative models that improve faster than they do, and a detector's verdict is still just another opinion to argue with. The durable answer runs the other way: authenticate real media at the source, and anchor that proof to something no single company controls.
